Meet The Process Duty Winch (PDW)

The newest of R&M’s wire rope hoist lineup, the PDW, rises to the challenge of demanding processes and applications while bringing nimbleness, ease of maintenance and cost-saving efficiencies to facilities across North America, Mexico and Central & South America.

What Can You Expect From The PDW?

Capacity & Certification

The PDW is available for loads between 6-70 tons (6,300 - 70,000 kg), and with a wide range of hoist speeds and lifts, the PDW is designed as a modular configuration with straightforward assembly techniques. Not only does that facilitate a smoother build process, it also provides easier access for maintenance and routine inspection.

R&M hoists bear a CSA Mark shown with adjacent indicators “C” and “US” for Canada and U.S. indicating that the products have been manufactured to the requirements of both Canadian and U.S. Standards.

Available As A Crane Package

Depending on the needs of your application, the PDW can be installed as a complete modular crane package. This is true with our complete product line of hoists and crane packages. R&M engineers and designers also work with customers to develop custom features and options using our quoting software, and our crane kits are engineered to order and designed as a complete system; this can help save up to 20% of building time and cost for our customers.

Built On A Foundation Of Excellence

Throughout North America, Mexico, Central and South America, R&M products are critical to operations in a wide range of industries. With nearly a century of expertise, wire rope hoists and crane components help our customers rise above the competition.

We back our products with state-of-the-art proprietary software, support and expertise. Our mission is to deliver products that rise above expectations, and the PDW winch is the newest member of the wire rope hoist line-up.

The PDW Steps Up For Process Duty Applications

The PDW is designed to provide excellent performance in process duty applications for Class D and Class E duty cycles.

Class D / ISO M6 Heavy Service

This service covers cranes which may be used in heavy machine shops, foundries, fabricating plants, steel warehouses, container yards, lumber mills, etc., where heavy duty production is required. In this type of service, loads approaching 50 percent of the rated capacity will be handled constantly during the working period.

Class E / ISO M7 Severe Service

This type of service requires a crane capable of handling loads approaching the full rated capacity continuously throughout its life. Applications may include magnet cranes or magnet/bucket combination cranes for scrap yards, cement mills, lumber mills, fertilizer plants, etc., with 20 or more lifts per hour at or near the full rated capacity.

A Robust & Versatile Offering Of Wire Rope Hoist Products

With wire rope hoist capacities ranging from 1 - 250 tons (1,000 - 250,000 kg), R&M’s purpose-built hoists cover applications across industries and lifting needs.

Hallmark hoists, like the Spacemaster® SX, have a lifting range of 1 - 80 tons (1,000 - 80,000 kg), while our open winches (the SXL and PDW) range from 6 - 250 tons (6,000 - 250,000 kg).

As a part of the R&M portfolio of wire rope hoist products, the PDW joins the SXL heavy lifting winch to add rugged durability and heavy usage capabilities for higher-capacity applications. And as with all R&M wire rope hoist products, the PDW integrates our proprietary Core of Lifting components.

Built-In Features That Help You Rise Above

With Core of Lifting, our key components like the motor, gearbox and control system, are designed in-house – specifically for the crane industry – and with the goal of creating top-tier efficiency and performance.

Motors

Designed for hoist applications specifically, the hoist motor is flange mounted, designed for high speeds with no misalignment of the motor to the gearbox.

Gearbox

As we said with the motor, the Core of Lifting gearbox-motor combination is designed to perform consistently and efficiently at higher speeds. The gearing is manufactured to exceed industry requirements to AGMA 11 standards for extra precision and reliability.

Control System

Our controls are engineered, designed and tested in-house and are developed to work seamlessly with smart features as they apply to the application.

For example, Extended Speed Range (ESR) comes as a standard feature on the PDW. This creates opportunity for faster hoist cycle time and increased throughput when there are lighter loads or no load on the hook.
